About the Foundation

The Tri-County Health Care Foundation is a private charity established in 1994 by the hospital to attract and administer charitable funds for the benefit of the communities and surrounding areas served by Tri-County Health Care. Tax deductible gifts support education, technology, patient care and equipment. Your financial donation has a direct and lasting impact on your family, friends and neighbors. Mission Statement

The mission of Tri-County Health Care Foundation is to gather charitable gifts on behalf of Tri-County Health Care. It accomplishes this by:

  • Encouraging estate plan commitments, fundraising efforts and philanthropic support.
  • Promoting education through voluntary grants and scholarships to institutions and individuals within the community served by Tri-County Health Care.
  • Supporting such other activities within the philosophy and mission of Tri-County Health Care.

How does it work?

The Foundation Board operates under the direction of a Board of Directors. Board responsibilities include:

  • Monitor management of fund assets through the Minnesota Foundation
  • Seek contributions for the ongoing work of the Foundation
  • Serve the community by working with donors
  • Distribute available funds through projects and programs in keeping with the mission

Who benefits?

The mission statement supports funding activities which promote, health, health care and education through grants and scholarships to individuals as well as institutions. The Foundation Board of Directors sees the entire service area benefiting either directly or indirectly through a strengthened health care delivery.

How does the Tri-County Health Care Foundation benefit donors?

  • Community Commitment. It provides a vehicle where the donor can make a permanent gift to the community.
  • Security. The Tri-County Health Care Foundation operates with the support of the Minnesota Foundation. All funds received by the hospital foundation are invested and managed by the Minnesota Foundation.
  • Everlasting. Funds invested assure that the proceeds continue to benefit the community beyond the donor's lifetime.
  • Tax Benefits. Donations are deductible to the extent allowed by the Internal Revenue code. (The fund is a private 501(c)(3) charity).

The kindness of our donors ensures fundraising events are key to the success of Tri-County Health Care Foundation. All events are open to the public. Please consider attending one this year!

February Festival of Health

Mark your calendars and plan to attend the year's biggest health fair in Wadena. The annual February Festival of Health is a community-wide health fair held annually the first Saturday of February in Wadena.

This free event offers more than 70 exhibits by local businesses and organizations. Each booth provides hands-on learning and an opportunity to become familiar with the many resources available for you and your family's health, well-being and safety. Several health screenings are also available, many of them free.

Admission to Festival of Health is free and no pre-registration is necessary.

Men's Night Out

Every spring, Tri-County Health Care hosts a male only educational program appropriately titled "Men's Night Out." Men's Night Out is a free, educational event on health, attended by more than 600 area men each year. Free health screening, informational booths on a variety of health topics pertinent to men and a light meal kick the event off.

The official program of the afternoon begins with an always popular panel of Tri-County Health Care's medical professionals participating in a Question and Answer session with Men's Night Out participants. The evening concludes with a keynote presentation. Past speakers have included men such as Don Shelby, renowned television news personality, Harmon Killebrew, major league baseball superstar, and John Gilardi, most winning coach in collegiate history and Superbowl Champion Ben Utecht.

Admission to Men’s Day Out is free and no pre-registration is necessary.

Women's Day Out

Tri-County Health Care host an annual women's event each spring. The day focuses on inspiration, wellness and entertainment to empower females ages 8-88. Women's Day Out is a free, educational event that focuses on women's health is attended by more than 500 women each year. Women have the chance to connect face-to-face with medical providers and other health care professionals, attend breakout sessions and listen to a keynote speaker specifically chosen for this event. Women’s Day Out offers a balance of education, entertainment and enjoyment in an event tailored to empower females of all ages.

Admission to Women’s Day Out is free and no pre-registration is necessary.

The Foundation events are free community events that are made possible through funding from the Tri-County Health Care Foundation and Tri-County Health Care. The Tri-County Health Care Foundation has a long history of funding activities within our communities that promote good health and support the philosophy and mission of Tri-County Health Care.

Fundraising

TCHC Foundation Golf Classic

Every August, the Tri-County Health Care Foundation hosts its annual Golf Classic at White Tail Run Golf Course in Wadena. This 18-hole charity golf tournament is open to anyone over the age of 18. Throughout the day, five-person teams compete for chances at prizes and proceeds from the popular event benefit the Tri-County Health Care Foundation.

The proceeds from the tournament enable the foundation to be a strong community partner. With the money raised at this year’s golf classic, we will be able to continue to host community events, award scholarships for students pursuing a career in health care and distribute several community grants – all of which support the TCHC mission to improve the health of the communities we serve.

The mission of the Tri-County Health Care Foundation is to gather charitable gifts on behalf of Tri-County Health Care for the benefit of the communities and surrounding areas serviced by Tri-County Health Care. By awarding grants, Tri-County Health Care Foundation proudly provides funding for innovative projects and initiatives that might otherwise go unfunded in our service area.

At Tri-County Health Care, we support funding activities that promote health care and education through grants to organizations in the service area of Tri-County Health Care (TCHC). The Tri-County Health Care Foundation has designed these grant guidelines to assist communities within Tri-County Health Care's service area in the advancement of health care.

We believe it's our responsibility to help partnerships in areas where our expertise and leadership will have the greatest impact. We objectively evaluate each grant request we receive. To start your proposal for funding, please review the information below and complete and submit grant application form (make hot link). All completed submissions that meet our review criteria and are submitted with sufficient notice will be reviewed and considered for funding.

Grant requests will be generated through meetings of Tri-County Health Care's Foundation Board, Governing Board, Satellite Clinic Advisory Boards, Executive Committee, and Department Managers, or through a direct mail solicitation to community organizations.

The Tri-County Grants Program is supported through the Foundation's Golf Classic.

Application Deadline

April 15 or October 15 of the current year.

The Foundation will accept applications semi-annually, to make grant awards at the second and fourth quarterly meetings of the Foundation Board.

Moen Brothers Grant

The Moen Brothers Endowment/Disabled Children’s Endowment was established in 2012 to assist area youth throughout the year. The grant is for equipment or educational programs that specifically benefit a youth with physical or cognitive impairments and lives within the Tri-County Health Care service area. The Tri-County Health Care Foundation will accept applications for the Moen Brothers Endowment on an ongoing basis throughout the calendar year. The applications will be reviewed regularly by the Tri-County Health Care Foundation Board.

The Walter Goedel Foundation was established in 2013 after the passing of Walter H. Goedel. Walter was very generous with his time and resources. He believed in giving back to the community, and a top priority was the youth. The Walter Goedel Foundation will accept applications semi-annually, to make grant awards at the second and fourth quarterly meetings of the Foundation Board.

Scholarships

Awarding scholarships to today's inspiring young leaders is a great investment in the future. Tri-County Health Care (TCHC) Foundation scholarships were established to encourage and promote qualified individuals from TCHC's service area to pursue a health care career.

The Scholarship Program is our commitment to improve the health care system by increasing the number of professionals who are working hard to attain their higher education goals, and eventually will start careers in the health industry. These bright students will increase the number of qualified health care professionals entering the workforce. TCHC Foundation provides multiple scholarships for students pursuing health care careers each year. The scholarships available include:

High School Scholarship

To assist high school seniors pursuing a health care career. Due April 1.
