Medicare Wellness Visits
For patients with Medicare coverage, an annual wellness visit aids in developing or updating a personalized plan to help prevent disease and disability. Medicare will cover the costs of this assessment.
What is a Medicare Wellness Visit (MAW)?
The Medicare Annual Wellness (MAW) visit is a yearly visit that is a free Medicare benefit. This is a great opportunity for you and your provider to review your medical history, current health, risk factors, and develop a personalized prevention and screening plan for staying well. This is a no-touch visit and does NOT include a physical exam.
What a MAW visit covers:
What a MAW visit DOES NOT cover:
- Physical exam
- Additional tests (including labs and radiology), procedures, or services performed during the same visit or on the same date of service
MAW visit change notice:
In the past, you may have received a physical exam and additional care during your MAW visit.
Medicare will pay for your MAW visit if we provide only the included preventive components.
Due to this, going forward, our staff will schedule a separate Medical Review* appointment in follow-up to your MAW visit to address any medical needs you may have.
*Medical Review: Follow-up appointment with your provider for items not included in the MAW visit, including but not limited to pertinent physical exam, lab result review, lesion removal, injections, and chronic disease management.
